Lethocracy: When the State Governs Toward Death

Dear friends, in the 2,738 essays before this one I have written 3,622,981 words. (Yes, I just had my colleague the computer count them.)

If I had a euro per word, I could probably afford a bunker. A small bunker, granted, possibly a used one. A bunker that would protect me and one or two other people from what is coming. That would delay by a few days what is by now foreseeable and will probably soon be unavoidable.

I was tragically right in my diagnosis. A number of European states appear obsessed with the single goal of committing national suicide – and of motivating neighbouring states to do the same.

A few decades ago the world wondered about Germany. Then people smiled and smirked about Germany. Today they have accepted that Germany is as it is – and are cashing it in while something is still there. First they wonder about you, then they laugh at you, then they pick you clean the way muggers pick clean a helpless drunk.

But in that suicidalism essay I was tragically wrong in my prognosis. I assumed at the time that things would get »better« once Merkel was overcome. Oh, how I erred!

The political spirit of the age can still only be described as suicidalism.

Beaten Into the Citizens

Today, however, around June 2026 and thus almost a decade after I wrote about the term »suicidalism«, the world is watching in the European country of Great Britain how suicidalism is no longer merely carried out implicitly but becomes an openly declared political principle – literally beaten into the citizens by the power of the state.

In Great Britain, two-tier justice is practised openly.

• Luke Yarwood was sentenced to 18 months in prison for two posts that had been read 33 times in total (newsweek.com, 17 December 2025)
• Qais Al-Aswad was not imprisoned after three sexual offences against three different women, but received a sentence suspended for two years (feeds.bbci.co.uk, 2024).

After Tucholsky: in Great Britain the man who goes to prison is not the one who does evil violence to women, but the one who voices his outrage over the deed in clumsy words.

Such two-tier justice seemed to be »merely« an outgrowth of a general political mood.

How Rotten the Morals Are

As people who feel themselves democratic and free, we can hardly imagine how rotten British morals already are. A Sikh stabbed an 18-year-old Briton – and the police put the handcuffs on the victim while he lay bleeding on the street, repeating: »I’ve been stabbed, I can’t breathe.« (courthousenews.com, 10 June 2026). Afterwards the British regime apparently had the family visited by a special unit, which is said to have warned the family members against expressing themselves freely in public (apollo-news.net, 15 June 2026). According to reports, even the family’s public statement is said to have been reworded by the authorities to fit British suicidalism.

Since the bodycam video of this police disgrace went viral (»Today Belfast, Tomorrow You«), Northern Ireland has been burning (»Belfast Is Burning«) – and soon all of Great Britain will be. British authorities are moving with particular aggression against the perpetrators – and by »perpetrators« we mean those who complain about the dying.

Alone in the Anger

This week Great Britain announced a social media ban for all young people under 16 – the ban is apparently to take effect next year (gov.uk, 15 June 2026). Affected are TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, Snapchat, Reddit, Facebook and others – not affected, as things currently stand, is the left-alternative network »Bluesky«, which is especially popular among left-wing journalists (gbnews.com, 15 June 2026). Bluesky recently made headlines because, following its user growth in 2024, the platform recorded a massive increase in child abuse material: from two confirmed cases in 2023 to 1,154 reported cases in 2024 alone (decrypt.co, 27 November 2024). That is supposed to be the only social media platform permitted to British youth. Any questions?

In fact, such a ban by the erstwhile Trotskyist Keir Starmer (gbnews.com, 28 October 2024) could above all create the framework for controlling all reports and censoring what citizens learn about the events in their own country. The discontented man is to be given the feeling that he is alone with his anger. Britons are not to be warned in advance, and when it happens to them, it must always be too late.

Among the images whose circulation the British government wants to prevent are the many recordings of overreach and violence by British police (@ModernityNews, 14 June 2026). The British security organs appear to have abandoned the ground of the rule of law and democracy not only recently (@MrAndyNgo, 13 June 2026), but increasingly also the ground of plain sanity (@realMaalouf, 30 August 2025).

We Need a Name

Great Britain is a state that does not merely, like Germany, make suicidalism the implicit guiding motto of all decisions and measures. Great Britain looks like a new kind of brutal dictatorship whose sole aim appears to be the extinction of its own nation.

Even though they apply totalitarian, communist and fascist methods, none of these descriptions quite fits.

We need a new name, a name for states acting dictatorially with suicidalism as their guiding ideology.

I propose Lethocracy.

A dictatorial, totalitarian state with suicidalism as its highest and de facto only absolute value is a Lethocracy. In German: Lethokratie.

Letho means death in Greek (compare: lethal). And -cracy of course: rule.

In a Lethocracy, whatever promotes (one’s own) death will be praised, from the abortion of one’s own children to the immigration of other people’s children.

Great Britain displays every mark of the Lethocracy, but what about Germany? Is Germany already lethocratic, or »merely« caught in the suicidal spirit of the age?

Erasing the Memory Too

Now, in Greek mythology Lethe is one of the rivers of the underworld, and specifically in the wider sense of Lethe as forgetting (see Wikipedia).

The Lethocracy does not only want to destroy the nation. The Lethocracy also wants to erase the common memory. The good must not be remembered. Or it is poisoned until it is evil. The evil, however, which is commanded as the only memory, is not to be questioned. (For instance: the true history of slavery.)

More than once I have written that the »left and the good« today resemble a death cult – and in this strikingly resemble, say, Islamists (see for example »Political Correctness, a Death Cult«, »They, Death; I, Life«).

In the terrible images from Great Britain, however, we see what it looks like when suicidalism combines with dictatorial, openly anti-rule-of-law means into Lethocracy.

Great Bands of Robbers

St. Augustine famously writes:

What indeed are kingdoms (or: states), when justice is absent, but great bands of robbers?

It is not just, there is no Justitia in it, when governments – for whatever reason – set out to destroy the life and the life’s work of the nation.

Ah, many a citizen thinks today, if only these were ordinary bands of robbers, but they steal life itself!

I Choose Life

Never has it seemed to me more urgent and more helpful to choose the ultimate and only counter-programme, the opposite of suicidalism, hedonism, Trotskyism and all the other demonic stuff.

Let me turn this outcry, now become essay 2,739, and close with the words of Jesus from the Gospel of John:

The thief cometh not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy. I am come that they may have life and may have it more abundantly.

That, dear friends, is the counter-programme. When death and life stand against each other, I choose life – even if they should kill me for it.
