You Are Already at the Front

We live in a different world than just a month ago. „Charlie Kirk is dead“. The act and the demonically evil reactions of those who call themselves the good have finally brought to light what has been waiting for its day for years.

I have known Charlie Kirk for a long time. For those who did not know Kirk, last week they had the opportunity to study his debates on video. Some of you did that.

It does not sound entirely wrong when a cardinal compares the murdered Charlie Kirk to a modern Apostle Paul (@bennyjohnson, 19.09.2025). (It should be noted that Kirk never persecuted Christians.)

The world is definitely different today. Different in the sense that the fronts are clearly drawn and obvious.

My readers know that I have been working on the „great divide“ for years. Around 2017, I still hoped to build „A Bridge Over the Great Divide“.

However, I soon realized that this bridge building is not very promising. The so-called left was already characterized by lack of empathy back then. Building a bridge to come together would practically mean that I would also have to become more like them. And I do not want that.

They are the figures who murder their political opponents, celebrate the murder, or spread lies about the dead in state media. They are the people who aggressively demand that society reshape itself and cater to their emotional states – yet at the same time are proud of how little they value our emotions. They are the figures who kill and allow their own children to be killed, whether already in the womb or later by the new „structural violence“ (see also the essay „These are not isolated cases, it is structural violence“ from 2018).

They are the people from whom you and I learned in history class that they are the evil ones – and as so often, the new evildoers today call themselves the good ones.

We asked ourselves back in 2018: „Are they stupid or evil? Does it even make a difference?“

Actually, since at least 2023 (see „How much devil is in politics?“), we suspect it, and since the murder of Kirk and the left reactions to it, it has become obvious: The powers fighting against us cannot be explained by ordinary malice or mere stupidity alone.

In the text „The Greatest Trick of the Devil“ I last described it with the words of the original Paul: „For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.“

We have been writing about this for a long time, and the holy scriptures have reported it for thousands of years. But now, since mid-September 2025, it is so openly evident that anyone who wanted to deny it would have to resort to outright lies. (Not a few will try exactly that.)

The fronts are open, and their definition is clear: The right simply want to live in peace, the left kill and destroy. (I know it sounds simple, almost blunt, but it is no different from 2 + 2 = 4.)

However, in the murder of Charlie Kirk, we recognize a dangerous asymmetry in the relationship between the two fronts.

One side, us, believes in the power of words, of better arguments, in the value of dialogue. „Where dialogue ends,“ Charlie Kirk used to say, „there begins violence.“ – They killed him, so that the dialogue would stop.

For the others, the left and good, words are little more than noise with which their own as well as the opposing troops can be either stirred up or lulled. „Truth“ is not a very high value for them, see currently the disgusting lies about Charlie Kirk in German state media.

But the most dangerous asymmetry is: For them, violence against dissenters up to political murder is simply politics by other means. We learned tolerance, to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39).

The last time those who believe in the word and practice turning the cheek had had enough and simply feared for their survival, they gathered for crusades.

May this time grant us a less bloody victory over evil!

We are being attacked by forces that can most precisely be described as devilish. But if we do not want to be dragged down into their abyss by the demons, how do we fend them off without bringing about new suffering and injustice?

How to push back the evil on a larger scale, that path still needs to be found – once again. It is at least reassuring that at least in private the way to push back evil is known and proven.
